Thank you for joining us!
If you missed our Webinar on Human Rights and Business, you can still watch the full recording here, or check out this blog post, which uses the example of the Ogoni case to demonstrate the challenges victims of corporate abuse face when seeking remedy.
Are you a human rights advocate or attorney? A law student with an interest in business and human rights?
Corporate Accountability Lab and Ankawa International are teaming up to offer a webinar on Business and Human Rights, using the conflict between Royal Dutch Shell and the Ogoni People of the Niger Delta as a case study.
The course will be co-taught by Professor Elizabeth Umlas, PhD, and Charity Ryerson, JD, with contributions from Amilcar Romero, Executive Director of Ankawa International, and Charles Wiwa, a member of the Ogoni community and plaintiff in civil litigation against Shell.
Topics covered will include the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, judicial and non-judicial grievance and accountability mechanisms, the role of international and domestic legal systems in creating accountability for human rights abuse, the role of voluntary initiatives and monitoring agencies, and emerging strategies to promote clean supply chains.
This is a great opportunity for activists, attorneys and law students to gain expertise in an increasingly important area of human rights law and practice.
